CHALLENGE
Potatoes are one of the world’s most versatile foods, yet in retail they’re often treated as an accompaniment rather than the main event. The founders of Street Potatoes wanted to challenge this, bringing authentic street food flavours from around the world to UK consumers. The proposition needed to feel contemporary, accessible and full of flavour while standing out against established ready-meal categories.
IDEA
The world’s potatoes, brought together.
The original Street Potatoes concept evolved into Potato Republic – a brand built around the idea that potatoes transcend borders, cultures and cuisines. Global flavour and authentic food stories became central to creating a proposition that made an everyday ingredient feel exciting and new.
STRATEGY
I worked closely with the founders to develop the brand through packaging, photography and retailer communications. Packaging celebrated the origin and story behind each recipe, using bold colour, simple messaging and appetite-led photography to create a distinctive and consistent shelf presence.
I also art directed the food photography and developed retailer presentations designed to communicate the consumer opportunity and demonstrate how the range could create a new role for potatoes within the convenience and ready-meal categories.
IMPACT
The result was a distinctive challenger proposition that repositioned potatoes as the hero rather than the side dish. By combining cultural storytelling, strong packaging and appetite appeal, Potato Republic created a flexible platform for future product expansion and gave retailers a fresh way to think about an everyday staple.
